LIGHTER SIDE OF IMMIGRATION

As immigration issues permeate the national (and international) consciousness, some of the responses are entertaining, some even moving. Here are a few:

  • a fake reality TV series about the Department of Homeland Security. As Slate points out, there really was an attempt to do this -- or at least a producer conned $5.5 million out of investors on this premise. The parody is remarkably close to the reality of profiteering by fomer DHS personnel, such as first DHS Secretary Tom Ridge's self-promoting video.
  • fake immigration news
  • a parody of a game show.
  • a music video with a Spanish perspective on the immigration debate.
  • a theme park where you can experience a lite version of sneaking across the Mexico-US border -- minus the rapes, robberies and death from heatstroke and dehydration.
  • OK, so this is not exactly about crossing the usual borders, but the atmosphere of this video reminds so strongly of Homeland Security that I had to post it.
